This collection consists mainly of personal correspondence, printed gubernatorial messages and addresses, newspaper clippings, photographs, and miscellaneous ephemera collected by Lua B. Edson (1895-1980) of Barre and Montpelier, Vermont, primarily during the period from 1901 to 1935. A substantial portion of the collection dates from Lua Edson's time working in the Governor's office. The correspondence and newspaper clippings in the collection center around her appointment as Secretary of Civil and Military Affairs in 1927 and the end of her time in the Governor's office in 1934. The printed gubernatorial messages and addresses in the collection also date from 1923 to 1934. These include both messages by the Governor to the General Assembly and a significant number of addresses made by Governor Wilson, which were broadcast from Station WBZ. A complete list of these messages and addresses is given in the inventory of the collection. Additionally, the collection also contains a Conference of Governors Yearbook from 1931. Many of the photographs identified date from the 1920s and 1930s also. The collection includes some items from Lua's later and earlier life. Most notably, there are report cards, ephemera and a scrapbook of postcards from Lua's childhood and education in the Barre public schools, dating from 1901-1912 in the collection. Many of the postcards have been used and include messages written to Lua by her friends and acquaintances. There are also several publications and brochures pertaining to the "Heritage of the Hills" celebration in Barre in 1970.
